Obama – A Tall Order

Like everyone around the world.. Obama being President and being sworn in .. was a much watch for us here in Canada. Having said all the above, I feel that Obama has a very hard job to perform in the next few years .. because of all that Bush had done .. during his reign as President.  I hope .. Obama will perform .. for the sake of the people in USA .. and also the world.

Is Gaza Dying?

Gaza is dying — the battle is advancing into cities packed with 1.5 million terrified civilians lacking food, medicine or water. President Bush undermined Thursday’s United Nations ceasefire resolution, over 1000 people are dead, the UN headquarters and Gaza’s main hospital are burning: there is nowhere safe. The borders remain closed — journalists can’t get in, and desperate civilians can’t get out.

But the global movement to end this war is building — our petition is at 430,000 signatures and rising, it has been delivered to top leaders at the EU, UN and Arab League, our US members are flooding their representatives with phone calls, and Avaaz members worldwide have donated over $120,000 to an ad campaign in key newspapers.

The pressure is working — so we’re ratcheting it up with hard-hitting US ads pressing Barack Obama personally for an immediate change of tack, face-to-face petition deliveries to European leaders this week to get them to act, and working with Palestinians and Israelis to plan bold actions on the ground. But every one of these actions becomes stronger as more of us join the campaign. We need to reach 1 million signatures this week — sign the petition now and let’s forward this email to all our friends and family:

Voices for a ceasefire are finally being heard in the Israeli cabinet and media, Hamas is signalling it could accept a deal including Turkish forces and EU monitors, but the sides are too far apart to end this themselves.[3] That’s why action by world powers is critical to break the deadlock — and global citizens’ voices can make all the difference if we raise an unstoppable voice calling on incoming President Obama, the EU and Arab and Muslim states to guarantee a fair and lasting ceasefire.

Beijing Olympics Came To And End With A Bang

Yes..!! the Olympics ended yesterday in Beijing with much celebration.. and pretty dramatic too.. from what i’ve heard. I have a Swiss friend stationed in Beijing .. and he was in some of the games .. as a spectator. From him .. i heard that plans were sent to the air to disperse some sort of materials to ensure the no rain would fall during the ceremony. Wonder what they did eh..?

There was a countdown.. followed by some awesome fireworkds.. and some flying daggers show.. and 200 drummers. I also hear that the world famous spanish tenor Palcido Domingo sang a duet wtih Song ZuYing a Chinese soprano star. Now that would be a sight .. and good listening. .for all..??

Look at the crowd..! So what’s next ..?? for china.. after the Olympics..??

Travel To & Fro Fell In Canada

What a surprised.. ??!!!!??  DUH..!!

Looks like anyone who depends on the summer.. and tourism had been affected.. because traveling which should had been all time high.. were actually lower. .than expected.. but it was no surprised.. not even to a layman like me.

With the fuel prices that were non controllable.. who could be traveling for leisure these days.  Despite saying this.. the man’s cousins still came over from Toronto.. so yes.. we still have ppl traveling.. but i guessed they saved on hotel. .and some other stuff.. since they have their summer house here.. .and family.  So how has the fuel’s yo yo affected you .. in your country..?

Opening Ceremony of Beijing Olympics 2008

This is an absolutely magnificent sight. during the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics 2008 of course in Beijing’s Bird Nest National Stadium. The fireworks would send just about anyone in awe. Definitely an experienced for those who were lucky enough to get tickets to watch it at the stadium. I hear great performances, excellent choreographed shows and many dazzling effects and of course the magnificent fireworks .. was like none others.

Beijing Olympics Opened Today..!

The Olympics has started..!! Awesome..!! We all should be proud as Chinese. This has to do with the world.. and not just Beijing or the Chinese.

Beijing Welcomes You – Olympic 2008

I counted about at least 100 artistes from both Hong Kong and China.. is involved in this theme song for the olympics held in Beijing this year. It’s an awesome song.. and one cannot feel proud and being a chinese.. even though i am not from China.

Pope Going To Australia

Well.. the Pope is leaving Rome today to Australia to attend the Roman Catholic Church’s World Day of Youth events.  Australians will get a glimpse of the honourable.. but not us in canada i guess.  His entourage and journalist are flown privately on a chartered plane.  Lucky pope eh..!  i thought this religious people are supposed to live frugally..?? no..??  Since election in 2005 .. the pope has already had 9 trips out of italy.

Oil At All Time High

At all time high.. oil prices continue to soar .. at $142 on Friday .. but the US dollar remained weak .. sending jitters to the business world out there. Doubled in the past year.. the oil prices has triggered inflation worries and US is not of much help.. since the economical growth did not do any better.

Seeing that Canadian dollars are even stronger than the US dollars last year.. i already anticipated alot of changes.. and had been worried constantly.. even though the economist in the United States had said.. that there were nothing to worry about. How much more impact is this going to be .. for the rest of the world..?? Watch closely.. else you will be hit.. and you don’t even know what is going on.

Nepalese PM Steps Down

Moving out and paving way to a new government .. is what Nepal’s interim prime minister and the country’s peace architect is doing.   Declaring that he is given up the prime minister’s post during an assembly in Kathmandu.  Koirala’s decision to step down came from the mounting criticisms from the Maoists that the veteran politician was unwilling to hand power to them even when his party lost the elections in April.  At 83, he became prime minister and after weeks of protests, it forced the then King to end his brief rule and hand power to the political parties.

Beijing Said.. Foreigners Behave..!

olympics.jpg

Reuters Photo

Beijing warned foreigners to behave during the coming Olympics and said that protesting without permission and sleeping outdoors is banned. China had an extensive “do not” list written in Chinese.. and warned that even if you had tickets to the Olympics, it does not guarantees you a Visa..!

If you have STD or intent to prostitute yourself during the Olympics.. you will not be allowed to enter China, same if you are crazy.  Looks like Beijing is more obsessed about the stability of the country than ever.. and don’t want any hitch during the Olympics. For several months now.. China had been tightening the visa controls.. and residential permits for foreigner and even permits for places of entertainment.

But I’m pretty sure no one wants to get thrown into the jail in Beijing.. because I heard it is nasty.

Tibet Explodes In Hatred, Fears Of Another Tiananmen

tibet.jpg

With the Olympics just months away .. in Beijing, one cannot help but fear about the riots .. and the death of already 30 people. If you all remembered in 1989, the Tiananmen Square massacre, in which hundreds died when the party sent in tanks to crush pro-democracy protests. Now China fears that they may face the same disaster on par with the Tiananmen Square massacre.

Thaksin Pleads Not Guilty

thaksin.jpg

Ousted Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra pleaded not guilty Wednesday before the Supreme Court in one of two criminal corruption cases against him. Prime Minister from 2001 – 2006, he was abroad when a coup against him forced him to return to Thailand on Feb 28. Looks like he was banned last year with all his top executive from political office for the next 5 yrs.

Charged with 2 counts of corruption, Thaksin arrival created quite a stir where his supporters were chanting away ..for him to fight it. Thaksin said he was gonna prove his innocence, he was ousted in a military coup for corruption and power abuse.

Hilary Clinton Wins Texas

clinton.jpg

I heard about Clinton’s win in Rhode Island .. a few days ago, and to be honest.. i was pretty shocked that the small community in Rhode Island voted for her. But i guess i would be surprised if any voted for her .. given her history.. first with Bill Clinton and also the White Water Investment that came up to light in about 1994.  I am currently watching the election very closely.  But  Obama is the one that I’m really interested in.

Just a few days ago.. i was reading that Prince Henry was serving in Afghanistan. That he had been deployed to fight the Taliban. I thought it was very noble of him.. and brave of the British official. Now he is being pulled out of Afghan becuase of a leak from a Australia magazine..! Yanked out from Afgan were the exact words.

Resume Rights Talks By China

About time..! in my opinion..!! China although is opened to the outside world.. for tourism.. it is still a very communist country.

“China declared Tuesday it is willing to resume a long-stalled human rights dialogue with the United States, seeking to improve its image before this summer’s Olympic Games in Beijing.”

Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi said they will have exchanges and discussions on human rights with the United States and other countries on the basis of mutual respect, equality and non-interference. China suspended participation in the regular U.S.-China human rights dialogue in 2004 after the United States sponsored a resolution in the Geneva-based U.N. Human Rights Commission urging condemnation of China’s record. Chinese officials considered the U.S. move in Geneva as interference in Chinese affairs and a display of hostility that made further formal dialogue impossible.
