There will be a disaster assistance package available to the people affected by the floods and it will also include a contribution from the federal government. Everyone is working together and neighbours are also helping each other with sandbagging, sump pumps and transportation of food and water. It is reported that many people have lost valuables and their homes have suffered extensive damage.

Flood warning continues and the top priority remains continuing to ensure the safety of New Brunswickers, so the premier said.

Brenda Martin, 51 yrs of age, is found guilty by Mexican judge on Tuesday guilty of money laundering. The Ontario woman is sentenced to five years in prison without parole and a fine of close to $3,500.  Crying and screaming was the reaction when she heard the verdict.  According to friends of Martin, she will be appealing to serve her sentence in Canada.

Martin was found guilty of being part of a $60-million internet fraud scheme run by Canadian Alyn Waage, who was convicted of fraud in 2006. He is serving a 10-year term in a U.S. prison.  Martin maintained her innocence, saying she worked for Waage only as a chef. Waage has testified Martin was unaware of his activities.

Martin’s mother alleged corruption within the Mexican judicial system.  More on CBC news.

Ferry In St John

It had been an ongoing concern with the people in Nova Scotia with regards to the ferry service. Now even Municipal politician in St John are worried about the ferry service to Digby. Rumor has it that no more new money will be award to this ferry operation, once the current arrangement runs out. Even though the federal government mentioned over $17 million for the Newfoundland-Labrador service. But none for St John – Digby service..?? The port city will be sending a letter to the federal minister of transportation for more info to help them access the situation. St John is the gateway to News Brunswick and the rest of Canada.

Loonie Raised and On Par

The Canadian dollar has once again raised by 2 cents against the weekness in the U.S. greenback.  Supported by stronger commodity prices, gold was up by $16USD at $948 US.  Prices for silver and copper were also higher.

With the loonie on par with the american dollar, one has got to wonder .. how much it is helping the economy .. because as far as i can see it.. it hasn’t.  I am still watching it very closely.

Jarvis Benoit Dies

I hear he was an extraordinary man..! someone who can light up the whole room with his smile. This extraordinary man had an extra special zest for fiddling and for life.
People liked him right off,” Louis Benoit said of his late father, who died Friday afternoon at the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre in Halifax of complications following an operation at the age of 83. “He was just an all-around good guy,” he said of the Trenton-born man, who lived south of the border for a few years as a child but spent much of his life in Arichat and Halifax. “He was never rich or anything, but he was generous with his time.
“Indeed, the modest but mighty talented musician started sharing tunes with the world at five years old, playing harmonica for the people of Watertown, Mass.
“He busked on the streets,” Louis said. “He was actually hiding the money under his porch and treating all the kids to candy. His mother probably didn’t really like it and put a stop to it, I think.”

Wished I had gotten to see him at least played once.  Rest in peace Mr Benoit.

Microsoft co-founder backing Bitove’s attempt to gain hold in wireless

Wow..!! this is big news..!! Microsoft Corp. co-founder and billionaire Paul Allen has agreed to back investor John Bitove’s attempt to gain a position in the Canadian wireless industry during the spectrum auction in May.

So what does all this means..??  For the layman.. it prolly means.. another player in the market..??? $106 million deposit with financial backing from Paul Allen’s firm .. Vulcan Inc.  Believing that the Canadian consumers deserve the best and most innovative wireless technology… John Bitove the chairman is very excited about the auction.

Several big names/companies has come up as bidders and one of them is telecom giants Rogers Communication.  Seriously, I hope Roger doesn’t win the bid.. because we need some new players in this field.

Canada’s oldest bookstore shut down

It is really sad to hear that Canada’s oldest bookstore located in Halifax closed its doors today. The 169 yrs old book room survived wars and the great depression but cannot outlast the competition.. and the economy downturn.

Owner Charles Burchell said that the trend of the market was changing that people prefers to order online instead of coming to his nearby bookstore to get the books they want. The dual pricing of books with higher prices in Canada than in the US was what broke the store’s back.

He blames the publishers for not reacting quickly enough to the rising Canadian dollars. I think the rise in Canadian dollars affected every business.. not only this one. Sad.. but true.

Canada Out Of Afghan

war.jpg

Canadians across the country rallied and protested the role of their soldiers in Afghan and want their loved ones, family and friends safe. I don’t blame them at all.. because recently in the last month, there were already 2 deaths .. and how many more Canadian soldier has got to die before they pull out..?? Many of the protesters said they were participating to voice their belief that Canada should be a peacekeeping nation and not take part in active combat. A 74 years old .. Maureen Adelman who held a placard that read ” No war, no way, no where” was in the protest because she wants the government to divert all the spending and all those brains to find a peaceful solutions. Men and Women from Canada are getting killed .. and so are the innocents in Afghan.

Someone STOP BUSH..!!

Canadian Soldier Killed in Afghan

hayakaze-michael-yuki-cp-44.jpg

A very sad day for all Canadians.. i am sure. Another soldier killed on Sunday after his armoured vehicle hit and improvised explosive device in Afghan. Which brings us to a total of 79 death and 1 diplomat who died in Afghan. Most of Canada’s 2,500 troops participating in the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan are in and around Kandahar province.

These Canadians are deployed there to keep the peace but even though we’ve heard of death since 2002, I am sure.. like Trooper Michael Yuki Hayakaze, 25, he didn’t think he was not going home alive. It saddens me.. to see another lost .. because of this mission.. and wonder when all the soldiers can come home..?

Nortel Announces Lost in 2007

Nortel, one of the largest telecommunication company in North America reported a $957 million loss for 2007. Cutting 2100 jobs and move 1000 others mostly to China and Turkey.

“The loss, which compares with an $80 million loss in the previous year, largely stemmed from a $1.043 billion write-down in the value of the company’s future tax write-offs. During a conference call for investors, Pavi Binning, the chief financial officer, said those write-offs were revalued largely because of reduced Canadian corporate tax rates and the increase in the value of Canadian dollar relative to the United States dollar. “

Certainly pity those guys and families who will be outta job soon.  Some must have been with Nortel for a long, long time.  What kinda of severance package does Nortel has for its employees…?

Nova Scotia Community Pays Tribute

karissa.jpg

The community where the late Karissa Boudreau was from pays tribute to this 12 yrs old who was found slained after missing for 2 weeks. Classified as a homicide, hundreds packed to pay their last respect and to grief in disbelieved of the murder.
I guessed the community is shocked because the last homicide was 15 yrs ago. And a 12 yrs old death is quite sad..! The police had said very little about Karissa’s death and insisted that it was an isolated case. But no matter what there is still a psycho killer out there.. as far as I am concerned. Parents should be very careful .. when they let their children go out on their own.

Gas Hike..!!!!

Yes.. come this Thursday.. anyone living in Nova Scotia.. and driving a car.. will have to pay for more.. for their gas.

“When Premier Rodney MacDonald was asked Thursday what his government can do to cushion the blow of future price increases, he said he doesn’t have a crystal ball. “

The premier said.. it would force ppl to think again.. if they wanted to make a car trip..!! hahhahhhahahah!!!  what a tool..!!! if you need to get to work.. or a medical appointment in the city.. you’ll have to go.. right..??  what shit is he talking about..???  This is way too stupid reasoning..!! Can someone go smack his baldy head..!

Vancouver Has The Most Gun Violence

Yes.. it does looked like Vancouver does have alot of angry and stupid people eh..?

“The Statistics Canada report notes that guns account for only 2.4 per cent of all violent victimizations. Clubs and other blunt objects are higher with three per cent, and knives make up more than double that with 6.2 per cent. “

Looks like Stephen Harper Prime Minister in Canada wants it speed up into law by March 1st or else he wants to force a spring election because of it.  Under the crime bill, there would be higher mandatory sentences for gun crimes and accused gun offenders will only get restricted bail… or NOT..!  I’m just glad .. i’m not living anywheres near Vancouver.. else I’ll have to watch out for flying bullets.
